Aubry Premier Cru Brut Champagne
Robert Parker, Jr., The Wine Advocate: Aubry crafts some of the most exciting and distinctive wines in Champagne. This small, family-run estate is one of the few properties in the region to use Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Fromenteau traditional grapes seldom seen today. There is a purity to the fruit at Aubry that is striking. The wines typically see very low dosage of just 2-3 grams. The truth is these wines dont need much. Readers should do whatever they can to taste these unique, compelling Champagnes. The Brut Premier Cru is a gorgeous wine, and a great introduction to the house style. Lemon, white flowers, mint, crushed rocks are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass as this refined Champagne shows off its impeccable class and total pedigree. The Premier Cru is 45 percent Pinot Meunier, 25 percent Pinot Noir, 25 percent Chardonnay and 5 percent Arbanne, Petit Meslier and Fromenteau. The high percentage of red grapes is felt in the wines breadth, while the aromas and flavors remain fresh, vibrant and beautifully nuanced throughout. This is a fabulous entry-level offering. Disgorgement date: June 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. Nov 2012Winery: The nose offers fruity notes of white peach and raspberry. In the mouth, the roundness and flavor of Meunier coat a structure that remains firm and toned. Bohigas Gran Reserva Extra Brut Cava 2014
James Suckling: Lots of fresh apples and brioche, plus a hint of marzipan, make this an appealing sparkling wine. In spite of the extended aging, this has a rather sleek profile on the palate and plenty of lemony freshness on the long, polished finish. Drink or hold. Aug 2018 Winery: Yellow with golden highlights due to its aging. Very fine bubbles with a slow, regular detachment. Maximum persistence of the crown due to long contact with fermentation yeasts. Highly complex aromas, combining fresh fruit with jam and syrup. On the whole offering long development, always with freshness as the focus of perception and advancing to fine notes of toast, dried fruit and nuts, spices (anis) and a touch of minerals (graphite). On the palate we note its powerful character softened by a subtle sweetness which, together with a good structure and fine bubble, forms an indestructible whole to accompany the aromas of ripe fruit with long persistence. Evolution with notes of pastry, spices and toast to produce a product with great power and projection in the glass. Bollinger Special Cuvee Brut Champagne
The Brits love this Bollinger Special Cuvee Brut Champagne, and so do we! And what's not to love?? The lusciously full body and scent of brioche, citrus and stone fruit flavors, held firm by beautiful acidity make us want to drink it every day. Oysters with a tangy mignonette, deviled eggs with debris, and mixed vegetable tempura are a few of our favorite starters for the Bollinger.
As for entrees, try this lovely bubbly with sauteed halibut, and finishit with a butter, garlic and fresh thyme bath. A classic grilled lobster dinner with brown butter and lemon wedges will make your day. And if you~re feeling like you deserve a treat, make it fried shrimp with a side of truffle fries. Just this once...

Cavallotto Bricco Boschis Barolo 2015
Another jewel for your cellar crown...Robert Parker, Jr.~s Wine Advocate: I had tasted this wine from barrel last year, and the wine was already shaping up beautifully back then. Staying the course, the 2015 Barolo Bricco Boschis shows extreme elegance and finesse. These are the characteristics of what is surely one of the most beautiful vineyard sites in Barolo. The Bricco Boschis cru affords a panoramic view onto much of the Langhe, with snowcapped Alps in the background. Barolo from Castiglione Falletto tends to show characteristics that are very fine, precise and linear. That~s fundamentally what you get here despite the more exuberant and fleshy 2015 vintage. This wine is truly beautiful.Winery: The 2015 Barolo Bricco Boschis leaps from the glass with a heady perfume of red and black fruits, accentuated by notes of tobacco, licorice and crushed rose petals. The warm midsummer gave rise to a depth of fruit that is expansive and generous but not cloying. The initial ripe fruit is supported by layers of spice, tar and mineral motes that give the wine structure and length. Though young, this is a relatively approachable Barolo which will improve in the bottle over the next decade. This wine finds its best matches at the table, with first courses of prosciutto, salami, Alba beef tartare and vitello tonnato. The wine is best with second courses of red meat in general, but also grilled fish or white meats, or with hard and aged cheeses. Desserts with dark chocolate are also a good match, or it can be enjoyed as a vino da meditazione (a wine for meditation) by itself. Cavallotto Vigna Scot Dolcetto dAlba 2017
Come and meet our delicious Italian find of the day, this Cavallotto Vigna Scot Dolcetto D~Alba. Beh ciao l... It~s ready to drink now so openyour first intense bottle and enjoy it with antipasti of artichokes, salami and olives. That ought to get the ball rolling. This Vigna Scot has amazing, lovely dark fruit, earthy undertones, clean minerality and beautiful balance, making it ideal with prosciutto, salami, meats, simple pastas, vitello tonnato, chicken and lots more. We love its fruit and suggestion of spice with chicken cooked with tomatoes and prunes. If you~re in the mood for pasta, look nofurther. How about agnolotti with sweet peas and goat cheese? And finally, if you~re looking for the wow factor, we love this Vigna Scot with roasted rackof pork with morel mushroom pan sauce. Don~t burn your tongues on the pan!! Break out at least one more bottle and cap off the evening with a smooth PiedmonteseRobiola Rocchetta cheese. It~s dense and creamy, and will take instantly to this Italian red. Talk about your dolce vita, winelovers...Robert Parker, Jr.~s Wine Advocate: I tasted this wine from barrel, but because it will be released in September (or maybe earlier,I am told), I~m giving it a final score here. The 2017 Dolcetto d~Alba Vigna Scot is a bright and exuberant expression that is bursting with luscious primaryfruit. The 2017 growing season, with its heat and dryness, was absolutely ideal for the robust Dolcetto grape. Some 13,400 bottles were produced. The winewill continue its six months of oak, but it won~t do more than that because too much barrel can take away from the fruity freshness and the grape~s naturalsweetness. You get all of that here despite the reductive phase in which I tasted it. The alcohol can be high in this vintage, but it is well hidden inthe case of this wine. Drink date: 2018 - 2022. Jun 2018Winery:Organoleptic Characteristics: Medium-structured yet soft with typical aromas such as cherries and other fruits with a complex, floor bouquet. Although it is a wine made to be drunk relatively young, it still has aging potential for up to 5 years. Bottle: 750ml, cork Varietal: 100 percent Dolcetto Alcohol percent: 12.5 Total Acidity g/L: 5.6 pH: 3.49 Aging: Large Slavonian oak botti of 50 hl for 6 months, then in cement tanks for 6 months.
