Bedrock Old Vine Zinfandel 2017

The Bedrock Old Vines Zinfandel is juicy, earthy and delicious. Its perfect for just about any meat on the grill, meaty pastas, any non-delicate pizzayou can think of and much more. Were always looking for an excuse to make barbecued baby back ribs. Well, here it is. The caramelization and slightlycharred edges of the finished product is intoxicating with the fruit in the wine. Pasta with Italian sausage and broccoli rabe in an olive oil and garlicsauce is another terrific option, as are grilled sirloin kufta kabobs. At this price, you can painlessly have another bottle should you decide to havea cheese course. We would do a smoked Gouda with toasted pecans and some dried fruit. Youre going to want to drill down into this Bedrock, winelovers!

Wine Spectator:Designated Smart Buy. "Old-school meets new in this Zinfandel, with just enough polish and plumpness tomatch the briary rusticity. Offers expressive black cherry, smoky anise and white pepper flavors. Drink now through 2024. 4,000 cases made." Apr 2019 (Advance)Winery: "I am incredibly proud of this wine. I have said it here before but it bears repeatingeven though this is one ofthe least expensive wines we make, in many ways it is the most important. First, it is the one Bedrock wine that trickles out to most markets, so if someonegets introduced to our wines, there is a good chance it is this one. As such, it has to be reflective of the style we place value on. Second, this is thewine that allows us to rehab old vineyards by giving us a place to put the fruit while we upgrade farming, pruning, and soil health; at an average of 80years of age, these lovely old vines appreciate the attention. Third, we now farm over 50 percent of the fruit that goes into this bottling, which allows us tomake the hard farming decisions (dropping fruit, picking in multiple passes, etc.) to ensure we get the quality we need. Fourth, it is a statewide blendof vines, which means we can flex towards the strengths of a vintage. In 2017 we were able to put extra focus on the great quality in Contra Costa County(27 percent), Dry Creek (12 percent), Sonoma Valley (17 percent), Alexander Valley (11 percent), and Lodi (10 percent) to create a delicious, balanced and juicy wine. Fifth, we want thiswine to spread the gospel of Zinfandel from California, and as such this sees fruit from great sites such as Evangelho, Bedrock, Nervo Ranch, TeldeschiRanch, Sodini and Pato Vineyard. The final wine is roughly 86 percent Zinfandel, 5 percent Petite Sirah, and 5 percent Carignan, with the balance being Alicante Bouschet andall the other crazy and lovely field-blended varieties found in our old vineyards. Drink 2019-2030."
